The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has condemned Somaliland for arresting three local journalists over the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ethiopia.
Last week, Somaliland authorities arrested three journalists who were debating the benefits and risks of the MoU with Ethiopia.
The three journalists were discussing the issue online on X (formerly Twitter) Spaces.
Somalia called the actions by Hargeisa “brutal” and an attempt to silence the media. It asked Somaliland to allow citizens opposed to the MoU to voice their concerns.
Those arrested by Somaliland authorities are yet to be released.
