Somalia Confirms Sending Soldiers to Eritrea for Training

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) confirmed that it sent soldiers to Eritrea for military training.

On January 27, the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism said that the government sent soldiers to Eritrea to receive training.

Over the last week, the government has repeatedly denied this report.

A former Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said that Somalia had sent young men aged 20-30 years to Eritrea for training. ‘

According to the ex-NISA director, the soldiers were then deployed to Tigray to help the Ethiopian government wage a deadly war against rebels in the region.

However, Osman Dubbe, the information minister, denied that the soldiers took part in the Tigray clashes.

There had been reports that over 370 young Somali men were killed in the Tigray crisis.

Parents of the missing young men complained to the government saying that they wanted to know the fate that befell their children.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s administration is under increasing pressure to bring back the missing Somali men.
