Somalia Congratulates Maldives on 60th Independence Anniversary

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Federal Republic of Somalia has extended its heartfelt congratulations to the Government and people of the Maldives as the island nation marks the 60th anniversary of its independence.

In an official statement released on Friday, Somali authorities celebrated the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two countries, reaffirming Somalia’s respect for the sovereignty and progress of the Maldives since it gained independence on July 26, 1965.

“We extend our sincere congratulations to the Government and people of the friendly Republic of Maldives on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of their independence,” the statement read.

Somalia and the Maldives share common values as members of the Islamic and international community, with both nations emphasizing peaceful coexistence, regional stability, and mutual development.

The 60th independence anniversary is a moment of pride for the Maldives, reflecting six decades of self-governance, growth, and a commitment to upholding democratic principles and sustainable development, particularly in the face of climate change challenges.

As the Maldives celebrates this milestone, Somalia expressed its best wishes for continued prosperity, peace, and unity for the Maldivian people.
