The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) is contemplating a second lockdown over the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases.
Dr. Fawziya Abikar Nur, the Minister of Health, said that she had advised the government to consider re-introducing lockdown.
The health minister said this on March 1.
She said that the 10 percent positive rate the East African nation has been recording over the last one month does not augur well for everyone in Somalia.
Dr. Nur advised Somalis to “maintain social distancing while avoiding large gatherings.”
“Data from the ministry shows that the situation is dire,” Dr. Nur said.
She mentioned that the country was able to curb the spread of the disease, which was first confirmed in March 2020, because of measures such as lockdown.
