Somalia Court Jails 2 Foreigners for 15 Years over Links with Al-Shabaab

A court in Somalia has sentenced two foreigners to 15 years’ imprisonment each for being members of the Al-Shabaab group.

Dereton Antonio Perez and Ahmed Mustaqim bin Abdihamid were each sentenced to 15 years.

Perez is a 44-year old man from Great Britain while Abdihamid is a 34-year old Malaysian.

Abdihamid had been on the news a lot since last week after the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed his status in Somalia.

While sentencing them, the military court confirmed that the two had been recruiting new members into Al-Shabaab for quite some time.
