Somalia Customs Chief Sacked Over Forged Arrest Letter

Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s Customs Director, Abubakar Sheikh Ahmed Mursal, has been dismissed from his position after allegedly issuing a forged letter falsely claiming the arrest of a senior official from the Ministry of Finance in Uganda.

Government sources confirmed the letter was not authorized and contained fabricated information intended to discredit the unnamed finance official. Authorities have accused Mursal of defamation, forgery, and deliberately harming the reputation of public institutions.

The Ministry of Finance condemned the incident, calling it a “serious breach of professional and ethical standards.” Legal proceedings are now underway, and Mursal could face criminal charges if found guilty.

Officials say the dismissal reflects the government’s zero-tolerance policy on misinformation and misconduct within its ranks.
