The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has declared a top African Union (AU) diplomat in the country persona non grata.
In a letter dated November 4, FGS ordered Simon Mulongo, who is AU’s Deputy Special Representative in Somalia, to leave the country within seven days.
Somalia accused Mulongo of engaging in activities that are contrary to the mandate of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Further, the Somali government also accused Mulongo of engaging in activities likely to compromise its security strategy.
His expulsion from the East African nation comes amid the latest squabbles between Somalia and AMISOM.
AMISOM seeks to extend its mandate in the country while Somalia would like nothing more than to see the organization leave once its mandate expires later this year.
