Somalia Deploys More Troops to Conflict-Ridden Gedo Region

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has deployed more Somali National Army (SNA) troops to the conflicts-ridden Gedo region along the border with Kenya.

For the last week, locals have raised complaints of mistreatment by the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) troops in the region.

Over the weekend, a contingent of SNA personnel was deployed to the region to protect locals from the alleged brutality by KDF soldiers.

KDF has enough personnel in the region who work together with SNA and Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) to quell Al-Shabaab militants.

Furthermore, KDF has a history of working closely with Jubbaland Security Forces, a development that has attracted the wrath of officials in Mogadishu for years.

Two weeks ago, Gedo residents held a protest accusing KDF soldiers of killing a civilian and kidnapping three others under unclear circumstances.
