The Federal Government of Somalia has deployed some of its Turkish-trained forces along the country’s border with Kenya.
Elite Gorgor soldiers, who were trained by Turkish military officers, were deployed to Gedo region, which is at the Somalia-Kenya border.
Senior Somali National Army (SNA) officers confirmed this development to the media on October 15.
The move is likely to increase the tensions between SNA and Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) in the volatile region.
Upon arriving in Gedo, the elite troops pitched their tent at El-Wak, Balad-Hawo, and Dolow.
Nevertheless, the senior army commanders who confirmed the troops’ deployment never said whether an assault is planned against KDF soldiers.
In recent days, there have been reports that KDF soldiers were harassing local residents. Witnesses also indicated that the Kenyan soldiers killed a local civilian.
