Mogadishu Talks Advance Defense Partnership Between Somalia and Djibouti

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s Defense Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi welcomed his Djiboutian counterpart, Hassan Omar Mohamed, at his Mogadishu office on Thursday. The Djiboutian minister is in the Somali capital to attend the 35th Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers of Defense and Security of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF).

Both officials held extensive talks aimed at enhancing strategic cooperation in security and defense matters. Their conversation also covered wider regional initiatives, with both sides working to coordinate efforts that promote stability and peace across the Horn of Africa.

Fiqi conveyed deep appreciation for Djibouti’s substantial contributions to Somalia’s nation-building efforts throughout recent years. He particularly emphasized Djibouti’s active involvement in the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), noting it exemplifies the enduring support and fraternal bond connecting the two countries.

The important gathering was joined by Chief of the Somali National Army (SNA) Major General Odawa Yusuf Rage, Djibouti’s Ambassador to Somalia, Mohamed Ibrahim Yusuf, and other high-ranking representatives from both delegations.
