Somalia, Djibouti Deepen Diplomatic Ties in Pretoria Meeting

Pretoria, South Africa – Somalia’s Ambassador to South Africa, Mohamed Sheikh Isak, hosted the Deputy Speaker of the Djibouti Parliament, Safiya Elmi, at the Somali Embassy in Pretoria in a high-level diplomatic engagement aimed at bolstering bilateral ties between the two Horn of Africa nations.

The meeting, attended by Somali diplomats and embassy staff, underscored the shared history and enduring partnership between Somalia and Djibouti.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation on regional security, trade, education, and diplomatic coordination in multilateral forums.

Amb. Sheikh lauded Djibouti’s continued support for Somalia’s political and security progress, particularly its role in peacekeeping and mediation efforts.

“Djibouti remains one of our closest allies. Today’s visit reinforces the strength of our brotherly ties and our shared vision for a stable and integrated Horn of Africa,” he said.

Deputy Speaker Elmi emphasized Djibouti’s readiness to collaborate more closely with Somalia on parliamentary affairs, youth empowerment, and joint regional initiatives.

She also commended the Somali diaspora’s active contribution to regional development.

The meeting concluded with both parties pledging to facilitate more frequent exchanges between government officials and institutions, with a view to consolidating unity and sustainable development in the region.
