Djibouti City — In a meeting that blended gratitude with vision, Somalia’s Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Sheikh Mukhtar Robow, met with Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh on Friday to strengthen cooperation in the fields of Awqaf and Zakat administration.
During the cordial discussion, Minister Robow extended heartfelt appreciation to President Guelleh for Djibouti’s historic role in hosting the landmark Arta Peace Conference in 2000—a turning point that laid the foundation for Somalia’s political recovery after years of conflict. He described Djibouti’s continued support as a testament to the brotherly bond shared between the two nations.
Robow emphasized Somalia’s intent to study and adapt Djibouti’s successful model in managing religious endowments and charitable funds, areas seen as vital for social welfare and economic resilience.
“Djibouti has demonstrated how transparent and well-structured Awqaf and Zakat systems can uplift communities,” he said, noting that Somalia seeks to replicate those successes to ensure fairness and sustainability in its religious institutions.
President Guelleh reaffirmed Djibouti’s commitment to standing alongside Somalia in its ongoing journey toward stability and development. The meeting underscored how shared faith and history continue to anchor Somali–Djiboutian relations, turning lessons from the past into a framework for future cooperation.
