Djibouti City — Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, on Wednesday met with the President of the Republic of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, during an official working visit aimed at strengthening strategic ties between the two nations.
The discussions focused on deepening bilateral defence cooperation, enhancing regional security, and coordinating efforts to combat terrorist groups threatening the stability of the Horn of Africa.
Fiqi conveyed Somalia’s deep appreciation for Djibouti’s enduring support, highlighting its historic and ongoing role in peacebuilding and stabilisation. He commended the contribution of Djibouti’s “Hiil Walaal” forces, who are playing a crucial role within the AUSSOM mission and supporting efforts to promote peace and restore state authority in Somalia.
“Djibouti remains a steadfast ally in our quest for security and stability. We are grateful for the sacrifices of the Hiil Walaal forces and the unwavering leadership of President Guelleh,” said Fiqi.
President Guelleh reaffirmed Djibouti’s commitment to Somalia’s peace and reconstruction, calling for continued collaboration to eliminate terrorism and ensure long-term regional stability.
The meeting reflects the growing momentum toward stronger regional defence partnerships as Somalia prepares to take full security responsibility from AUSSOM and escalates its fight against Al-Shabaab.
