Somalia Elected into UN Human Rights Council

Somalia has been elected into the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) elected Somalia and 17 other nations to join the Human Rights Council (HRC) with immediate effect.

Elections for the HRC membership took place on October 14.

The other nations that join the Council include United States of America, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Paraguay.

Others are Gambia, Lithuania, Finland, Cameroon, Eritrea, Benin, Argentina, Montenegro, Malaysia, and Luxembourg.

Kazakhstan, Honduras, and India complete the list of nations joining HRC.

Somalia and the other 17 nations are now to serve for the next three years.

None of these nations shall be eligible for immediate reelection after two consecutive terms.
