Somalia Engages Africa’s Health Leaders at Kampala Medical Conference

Kampala, Uganda — A delegation led by Mohamed Adow, Secretary General of the National Health Professional Council of Somalia (NHPCS), participated in the 27th Annual Conference of the Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCOA) held in Kampala, Uganda.

The conference brought together leading African medical regulators, health professionals, and policymakers to strengthen collaboration, improve healthcare workforce standards, and advance medical regulation across the continent.

In his remarks, Secretary General Adow reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to aligning with continental benchmarks for medical governance.

“Somalia is working to build a robust regulatory environment that ensures ethical, safe, and professional healthcare delivery. Engagements like AMCOA are essential for mutual learning and integration,” he said.

The conference covered key themes such as accreditation of medical institutions, cross-border recognition of qualifications, ethical conduct, and digitalization of practitioner registries. There was a special focus on capacity building in fragile and post-conflict health systems.

During the sidelines of the event, the NHPCS delegation held bilateral discussions with peer institutions, exploring potential cooperation in areas such as training, standards harmonization, and technical assistance.

Somalia’s active participation signals its ongoing efforts to rebuild and modernize its healthcare governance and to contribute to a stronger, more coordinated African health system.
