Somalia Envoy Congratulates U.S. on Independence Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Somalia’s Ambassador to the United States, Dahir Hassan, has extended his congratulations to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the American people on the occasion of the 249th anniversary of the United States’ Independence.

In a statement shared on social media, Ambassador Hassan expressed Somalia’s solidarity with the United States, stating that Somalia stands with America in defending sovereignty, liberty, and peace through strength. The ambassador highlighted the enduring partnership between the two nations, emphasizing shared democratic values and mutual interests in global peace and stability.

“On this historic day, we reaffirm our commitment to the principles that bind our nations — freedom, self-determination, and the pursuit of peace,” Hassan said.

The message comes as Somalia continues to deepen its diplomatic engagement with global partners, including the United States, which has supported Somalia in its state-building, counterterrorism, and development efforts.

The Fourth of July marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, a foundational moment in American history. Celebrations across the U.S. this year included parades, fireworks, and ceremonies reflecting national pride and democratic resilience.

Ambassador Hassan’s remarks underline Somalia’s intention to maintain strong bilateral ties with the U.S., especially in areas of security cooperation, regional stability, and economic development.
