Somalia, EU Deepen Cultural Cooperation

Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Daud Aweis, held talks on Monday with European Union Ambassador Karin Johansson, focusing on strengthening cooperation in cultural development and public awareness initiatives.

During the meeting, Aweis expressed appreciation for the EU’s continued support in promoting culture and fostering peace in Somalia, noting that cultural engagement plays a vital role in national reconciliation and social cohesion.

Amb. Johansson reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to bolstering cultural programmes and awareness campaigns as Somalia advances its recovery and development. She emphasised that culture is a cornerstone for building unity and shared identity, particularly as the nation forges new paths of progress and hope.

The discussions come at a time when Somalia is working to revitalise its cultural heritage, promote national arts, and expand public outreach efforts to inspire civic engagement. Both sides agreed to explore joint projects aimed at empowering youth, preserving heritage, and fostering dialogue across communities.
