Galkayo, Somalia – Earlier today, a military court carried out the execution of two convicted Al-Shabaab operatives in northern Galkayo town, Mudug region, following their sentencing for a series of deadly terrorist acts.
The two men, identified as Anas Abdikadir Mohamed, also known as Salman, and Adam Mursal Mohamed, known as Idow, were executed by firing squad after being found guilty of orchestrating and participating in targeted assassinations, bombings, and killings of prominent figures in Puntland State.
Military prosecutors presented evidence linking the pair to a string of violent operations conducted on behalf of the extremist group, including the assassination of government officials and security officers. According to court records, their activities destabilized Galkayo and surrounding areas, causing loss of life and undermining regional security.
The court emphasized that the verdict was intended to deliver justice for the victims of terrorism and to deter further insurgent activity. Relatives of those killed in Al-Shabaab’s attacks were reportedly present during the execution.
Puntland authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, stressing that individuals responsible for aiding Al-Shabaab’s operations will be held accountable through the legal system.
The execution underscores the Somali government’s ongoing efforts to weaken Al-Shabaab’s influence in the country, particularly in strategic urban centers such as Galkayo, which has witnessed recurring militant attacks in recent years.
Security analysts note that while the executions may send a strong message, they also highlight the persistent threat posed by the insurgents, who continue to operate across large swathes of central and southern Somalia despite sustained military offensives.
