Somalia Looks to Expand Youth and Sports Collaboration with Azerbaijan

Baku, Azerbaijan – Somalia is advancing discussions with Azerbaijan to enhance youth development and sports capabilities through collaborative efforts, as Youth and Sports Minister Mohamed Abdulkadir Ali leads high-level meetings in the Azerbaijani capital.

Ali engaged with his Azerbaijani counterpart Farid Gayibov to explore potential support that would enable Somalia to develop robust youth policies, expand training programs, and elevate the performance of Somali athletes in regional and international competitions.

Somalia seeks to leverage Azerbaijan’s expertise in sports infrastructure, athlete training, and youth programs. Discussions focused on technical assistance, coaching initiatives, and opportunities for Somali youth to receive advanced training, potentially boosting athletic competitiveness and creating greater opportunities for young Somalis domestically.

The negotiations also considered cultural and youth exchange programs designed to enhance skills and broaden exposure for Somalia’s youth. According to Somali representatives, these measures align with the government’s broader strategy of empowering the nation’s fast-growing young demographic.

The visit is anticipated to result in a formal partnership agreement, establishing a framework for sustained support that Somali officials believe will modernize the sector and provide enduring advantages to young people throughout the nation.
