Somalia Expresses Keen Interest in Somaliland’s November 13 Elections

Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation has stated it is closely monitoring the upcoming elections in Somaliland, the self-declared breakaway region.

The ministry defended the newly adopted “one person, one vote” electoral model, emphasizing it as an expression of the Somali people’s collective will as agreed upon by the National Consultative Council (NCC).

The federal government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ensuring a transparent, inclusive, and credible electoral process across Somalia.

This approach aligns with Somalia’s broader efforts to strengthen democratic participation and unify electoral practices nationwide.

Somaliland will be holding presidential and parliamentary polls on the same day next week, November 13.

Traditionally, Somaliland elects its President and legislators through the direct system: that is, one person, one vote.
