The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has extended curfew hours in Mogadishu. FGS had imposed curfew to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the city and the rest of the country.
Gen. Abdi Hassan Hijar, the head of the country’s police, announced that the Mogadishu curfew would be starting at 7pm each day rather than 8pm, as has been the case.
He said the curfew comes into effect from the first day of the Holy month of Ramadan.
Furthermore, he released a set of guidelines designed to reduce congestion in all types of public transport vehicles, which will now cut the number of passengers they carry by half.
Consequently, all minibuses that have been carrying 20 passengers are now expected to transport 10 passengers per trip.
Gen. Hijar also announced that all restaurants operating in the country’s capital should only open from 5pm to 7pm.
