Somalia has failed to convince Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to bless its decision to cut diplomatic ties with Kenya.
Last week, Somalia wrote a letter of protest to IGAD accusing Kenya of interfering in its internal affairs.
Instead, leaders at the Extraordinary 38th Session of IGAD, which was held in Djibouti, urged Somalia to engage in dialogue with its Kenyan counterparts.
IGAD held its latest session on Sunday, December 20.
Since then, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has claimed that IGAD forced it into dialogue with Kenya.
Further, Somalia had sought to convince IGAD to reprimand Kenya but this move also fell through.
According to the IGAD leaders, the electoral calendar is more important than the country’s diplomat spats with Kenya.
Consequently, the leaders encouraged the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to place more emphasis on implementing the electoral agreement signed on September 17, 2020.
