Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia secured enhanced regional security backing on Thursday as Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre concluded the 35th Ordinary Policy Organs Meeting of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), with outcomes expected to bolster the nation’s stability and integration into regional security structures.
The week-long meeting in Mogadishu, which ran from December 13 to 18, ended with resolutions focused on improving the operational readiness, cooperation, and accountability of the EASF, initiatives that authorities believe will directly aid national and regional efforts against security challenges.
Prime Minister Barre stated that the decisions reached during the summit would have a significant effect on Somalia’s security environment, especially through improved intelligence exchange, synchronized responses to cross-border dangers, and greater regional unity.
“This meeting’s outcomes reinforce Somalia’s security alliances and confirm our central role in regional peace and decision-making processes,” Barre noted, emphasizing that hosting the event showed increasing trust in Somalia’s stability and governance systems.
He further mentioned that the successful completion of the meeting enables Somalia to gain from improved collaboration with neighboring countries, as the federal government amplifies its efforts to re-establish state authority and solidify security achievements.
Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, the federal Minister of Defense, indicated that the adopted resolutions would strengthen the EASF’s capacity to prevent and address emerging threats, highlighting that Somalia will benefit from a more efficient and unified regional standby force.
“These resolutions are not merely theoretical pledges. They translate into enhanced collective security that directly advances peace and stability in Somalia and throughout Eastern Africa,” Fiqi explained.
Somalia’s hosting of this prominent security forum is regarded by officials as a major diplomatic achievement, indicating the nation’s reinstatement as a dependable regional partner following years of turmoil and reinforcing its influence on Eastern Africa’s security priorities.
