Somalia Gears Up for Second National ID Conference to Advance Digital Transformation

Mogadishu, Somalia – Mogadishu is set to host the second Somali National ID Conference (SNIDC) from November 24–25, bringing together government leaders, technology experts, and stakeholders to chart the future of Somalia’s digital identity ecosystem. This year’s conference, themed “From Identity to Impact: Building Somalia’s Digital Ecosystem,” emphasizes the critical role of a robust National ID system in fostering inclusive governance, service delivery, and economic growth.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre will serve as the Guest of Honour, opening the conference with a keynote address that will underscore Somalia’s commitment to establishing a trusted, inclusive, and secure National ID framework. His presence reflects the federal government’s determination to use digital identification as a cornerstone for national development and citizen engagement.

The conference will also feature Ali Yusuf Ali, Minister of Interior, Federalism, and Reconciliation, as a keynote speaker. He will outline the government’s policy leadership in driving digital transformation, demonstrating how a reliable National ID system can enhance governance, facilitate access to services, and strengthen state-citizen trust.

Organized by the National Identification and Registration Agency (NIRA), SNIDC 2025 promises interactive discussions, technical sessions, and strategic planning on the integration of digital identification systems into Somalia’s broader digital ecosystem. The event aims to position Somalia at the forefront of digital innovation in the Horn of Africa, offering practical solutions for service delivery, security, and citizen empowerment.
