Mogadishu, Somalia – On Wednesday, Mustafa Duhulow, the Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) of Somalia, received the German Ambassador to Somalia, Sebastian Groth, and his accompanying delegation at his office in Mogadishu.
The high-level meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the areas of migration management and citizenship, with particular attention given to institutional capacity-building and international recognition of the Somali passport.
Discussions centered on Germany’s potential support for strengthening Somalia’s immigration systems, including the development of administrative frameworks, technical infrastructure, and training for personnel within the ICA.
The two sides also explored mechanisms to streamline migration processes, improve service delivery, and foster closer coordination on matters of identity verification and border control.
Director General Duhulow welcomed Germany’s continued engagement and expressed appreciation for its longstanding support to Somalia’s state-building and governance reforms.
He emphasized the importance of international partnerships in bolstering the legitimacy and efficiency of Somalia’s immigration services, which play a vital role in national security and global mobility for Somali citizens.
Amb. Groth reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s development agenda and underscored the importance of mutual trust and technical collaboration in addressing migration challenges and opportunities.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to continue dialogue and explore joint initiatives aimed at enhancing institutional resilience and strengthening Somalia’s integration into global systems of migration governance.
