Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Isaak Mohamud Mursal, met on Wednesday with the German Ambassador to Somalia, Sebastian Groth, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation.
The meeting, held in Mogadishu, focused on Germany’s renewed support for Somalia’s security architecture through the “Security and Risk Management in Somalia” project.
The initiative, backed by German funding, aligns with the longstanding agreements between the two nations signed in 1979 and reaffirmed in 2017. Mursal expressed the Somali government’s deep appreciation for Germany’s continued commitment, particularly in supporting peacebuilding, institutional stability, and risk mitigation in fragile regions.
Both officials reiterated their countries’ shared goals of promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development across Somalia. They emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing security challenges, improving governance, and enhancing resilience in the face of climate and conflict-related risks.
Amb. Groth reaffirmed Germany’s dedication to fostering long-term partnerships with Somalia, particularly in line with international frameworks that promote democratic governance, the rule of law, and inclusive development.
The renewed German funding for the security project is expected to bolster the capacity of Somali institutions to manage security risks more effectively and sustainably, reinforcing national efforts to stabilize and rebuild the country after decades of conflict.
