Somalia has given candidates interested in serving as Speaker and Deputy Speaker in the federal parliament up to April 22 to finalize their registration.
The 10-member committee appointed to prepare for the speaker’s elections announced this on Monday, April 18.
The committee is under the leadership of Abdirizak Mohamed, a Lower House legislator.
Both chambers of Parliament – the House of the People and Senate – held a joint session in Mogadishu on Monday.
Friday’s deadline is for candidates interested in serving as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Lower House.
Earlier, federal parliament legislators said that the Speakers and Deputy Speakers’ elections must be concluded before the end of this month.
