Abdi Ashur Hassan, the Minister for Post, Telecom and Technology, has hailed the improved ranking that Somalia enjoys globally on the cost of Internet.
In Africa, the country is now ranked first in the list of countries with affordable Internet. Globally, the Horn of Africa country ranks seventh.
The improved ranking is quite substantial considering that the country was 134th in the world last year and 37th in Africa.
Hassan hailed the impact of several stakeholders who have worked closely with the Federal Government of Somalia to ensure that Somalis get cheaper Internet.
The low cost of Internet has enabled the government – through the Ministry of Education – to offer digital classes despite closing schools due to COVID-19.
