Reports indicate that the Federal Government of Somalia has no immediate plans to lift the ban on khat flights.
Somalia banned khat trade at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020.
However, in late July the government announced plans to lift the temporary ban imposed on international flights.
Flights carrying khat, popularly known as miraa in the country, remained banned, though.
Since then, khat farmers from Kenya and the traders in Somalia have implored authorities in Mogadishu to reconsider their stance without any success.
Now, officials in Somalia have reiterated their stance. They claim that miraa farmers in Kenya have been pushing for a lifting of the ban via the Kenyan media.
Last month, Somalia issued a set of conditions that the Kenyan government must meet before the ban is lifted.
Kenya has remained quiet and unresponsive to the issuance of those conditions.
