The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has decried the unimpressive humanitarian funding that Somalia has received.
As of October 31, 2024, Somalia’s humanitarian funding situation is facing significant shortfalls, according to th latest report that OCHA published on Monday.
Only 39.6% of the required funding for humanitarian response has been met, leaving a substantial gap as the year approaches its end.
The majority of clusters, responsible for various humanitarian sectors (such as health, food security, shelter, etc.), have received less than half of their necessary funds, affecting the delivery of critical services.
The percentage of funding received under the Humanitarian Needs Response Plan (HNRP) is notably lower than in the past four years, indicating a concerning trend in reduced financial support for Somalia’s urgent humanitarian needs.
This funding deficit could impact millions in Somalia, where ongoing conflicts, climate shocks, and economic challenges continue to drive high humanitarian needs.
