Somalia Hosts East African Community Conference to Drive Regional Productivity

Mogadishu, Somalia — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is set to inaugurate the East African Community Conference (EACCON 2025) in Mogadishu on Tuesday, marking Somalia’s second time hosting the high-level regional forum since joining the bloc. The two-day summit, running from October 7 to 8, is expected to bring together policymakers, investors, and business leaders from across East Africa to chart new strategies for enhancing the region’s productive sectors.

The conference will center on unlocking regional value chains, industrial growth, and cross-border investment opportunities, reflecting a shared commitment to economic integration and sustainable development under the EAC framework. Delegates are anticipated to explore policies aimed at strengthening agriculture, manufacturing, and trade—key engines of growth that underpin the region’s economic resilience.

Hosting the summit for a second consecutive year underscores Somalia’s rising prominence within the East African Community and its determination to play an active role in shaping the bloc’s development agenda. Since its admission, Somalia has made strides in aligning its policies with EAC standards, pursuing reforms to boost trade facilitation, infrastructure development, and private sector participation.

Officials from the EAC Secretariat, member states, and regional financial institutions are expected to attend, alongside representatives from development partners and the Somali business community. The gathering will also serve as a platform for advancing discussions on harmonized investment frameworks and regional collaboration in energy, transport, and digital transformation.

As Mogadishu hosts EACCON 2025, the conference symbolizes both Somalia’s growing regional engagement and the broader ambition to build a more connected, competitive, and self-reliant East Africa.
