Somalia Humanitarian Fund Sets Aside $20 Million to Assist Communities Facing Famine

Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF) has set aside $20 million to assist communities facing famine around the country.

Adam Abdelmoula, the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to Somalia, announced this on June 2.

Abdelmoula had traveled to Baidoa, the administrative capital of Southwest state, to get a first-hand look at the worsening situation.

While announcing the allocation, Abdelmoula mentioned that the funds would provide communities that are at risk of famine with immediate humanitarian assistance.

“The ongoing severe drought is creating a disaster in Somalia,” Abdelmoula stated.

He called for the rapid scaling up of humanitarian assistance to the most affected people in the country.
