Somalia Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan Only 12.4% Funded as of March 10

As of 10 March 2025, the Somalia Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, which requires $1.42 billion to address critical needs, is only 12.4% funded.

This significant funding gap poses a severe challenge to meeting the escalating humanitarian needs in Somalia, and is driven by a number of factors.

Climate Shocks

Prolonged drought conditions have devastated livelihoods, particularly in agriculture and pastoralism, leading to food insecurity and water scarcity.

Conflict

Ongoing violence and instability continue to displace communities and hinder access to essential services all over th country.

Displacement

Millions of Somalis remain displaced, living in precarious conditions with limited access to shelter, healthcare, and education.

The lack of adequate funding jeopardizes life-saving interventions, including food aid, healthcare, water and sanitation, and protection services.

Without urgent international support, the situation is likely to worsen, exacerbating suffering and increasing the risk of famine and disease outbreaks.

Humanitarian organizations are calling for immediate and increased contributions from donors to bridge the funding gap and ensure that critical assistance reaches those in need.

The international community must act swiftly to prevent further loss of life and alleviate the suffering of vulnerable populations in Somalia.
