Somalia Humanitarian Response Plan Only Received 57 Percent Funding

On Tuesday, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that the Somalia Humanitarian Response Plan (SHRP) has only received 57 percent of the required funding.

OCHA made this announcement in one of its briefings about SHRP on September 22.

It clarified that the response plan has only attracted $575 million, which only equates to 57 percent of the $1.01 billion it needs in funding.

However, OCHA stated that the problem of funding is not limited to SHRP alone. Instead, it indicated that several “humanitarian clusters have received not more than 35 percent of the funding they require.”

Consequently, OCHA mentioned that the lack of adequate funding has rendered most of these clusters unable to carry out their regular programs around the country thus contributing to the worsening of humanitarian crises in Somalia.
