Somalia in Discussions with UN on Orderly Transition

Somalia has launched discussions with the United Nations on plans for an orderly transition from next year.

The East African nation will transition from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) from January 1, 2025.

ATMIS will pull all its troops out of Somalia by December 31, 2024.

According to state media, Somali government will be transitioning from a political mission to one known as the UN Country Team (UNCT).

The transition will present a new chapter in the country’s development journey.
