Somalia is Ready with a Comprehensive National Medical Strategy, Says Dr. Bulale

Dr. Mohamed Hassan Mohamed Bulale, Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Health, has announced the implementation of a comprehensive national medical strategy aimed at enhancing emergency response, trauma care, and long-term medical resilience, particularly as the government intensifies its efforts against terrorism.

This strategy includes the establishment of state-of-the-art trauma centers, such as the recently inaugurated Trauma Emergency and Intensive Care Center at De Martino Hospital in Mogadishu. This facility is expected to significantly improve the country’s capacity to manage medical emergencies and provide critical care services.

In collaboration with international organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO), Somalia has also deployed emergency medical teams to support trauma care and build local capacities. These efforts focus on areas such as reconstructive surgery, nursing management of traumatic brain injuries, and initial assessment and triage in emergency situations.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Health has initiated capacity-building plans for first responders and hospital managers to strengthen critical trauma care services. These initiatives aim to reduce preventable mortalities during mass casualty events by enhancing the skills and preparedness of healthcare professionals.

The success of this comprehensive medical strategy will depend on sustained legislative support, adequate funding, and effective governance structures. Collaborations with international partners and non-governmental organizations will also play a crucial role in its implementation and sustainability.
