Somalia is the latest member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
On January 13, IEC announced that the East African nation had joined its Affiliate Country Programme.
Consequently, the Somali Bureau of Standards (SBS) has to adhere to the IEC standards henceforth.
Somalia now takes the IEC membership to 173 countries.
Aristea Kyriakati, the Head of the IEC Affiliate Country Programme, was quick to welcome Somalia.
Kyriakati promised Somalia all the support it needs to establish a robust infrastructure specifically for assessing standardization and conformity.
SBS is a fairly new entrant in the market after its establishment in 2020.
