Somalia Joins Singapore–Africa Ministerial Talks

Singapore – The State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Ali Mohamed Omar, represented Somalia at the 5th Singapore–Africa Ministerial Exchange Visit (AMEV), held from August 26 to 28 in Singapore.

The high-level forum brought together ministers and senior officials from across Africa to engage Singaporean leaders, policymakers, and business communities on strengthening cooperation in trade, technology, and sustainable development. The discussions centered on building deeper partnerships between Africa and Singapore in areas such as infrastructure, finance, climate resilience, and digital innovation.

Somalia’s participation underscored the country’s determination to expand its diplomatic and economic partnerships beyond traditional allies. Omar highlighted Somalia’s investment potential and emphasized the government’s focus on economic reforms, stability, and regional integration as key drivers of future growth.

The Singapore–Africa Ministerial Exchange Visit, launched in 2014, has become an important platform for fostering dialogue between African nations and Singapore, providing opportunities to share experiences in governance, development planning, and innovation. This year’s edition also featured business networking sessions aimed at creating new trade and investment linkages.

By attending the meeting, Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international cooperation and pursuing diversified partnerships that can support its long-term development agenda.
