Somalia, Jordan Deepen Ties at Arab Youth, Peace & Security Strategy Launch

Amman, Jordan – Somalia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohamed Abduqadir Ali, is currently in Amman to attend the official launch of the Arab Strategy for Youth, Peace, and Security, a landmark initiative aimed at empowering young people across the Arab world to play a constructive role in peacebuilding and development.

During his visit, Ali held a bilateral meeting with his Jordanian counterpart Mohammad Salameh Al-Nabulsi, who serves as the Minister of Youth.

The two ministers discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in youth empowerment, sports development, and cultural exchange programs between Somalia and Jordan.

The launch event, convened under the auspices of the League of Arab States and supported by UN agencies and regional stakeholders, brought together ministers, youth representatives, civil society leaders, and policymakers from across the Arab region. It aims to integrate youth into decision-making processes and create safer, more inclusive communities.

Ali emphasized Somalia’s commitment to the principles of the strategy, noting the country’s efforts to engage youth in rebuilding a peaceful and prosperous society.

“Our youth are central to Somalia’s recovery and resilience. Investing in their potential is not just a necessity—it is our duty,” he said during a panel session.

Jordanian minister Al-Nabulsi welcomed the Somali delegation and reiterated Jordan’s readiness to collaborate on joint programs in youth training, sports diplomacy, and peace education.

The Arab Strategy for Youth, Peace, and Security aligns with UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security and aims to institutionalise youth engagement in peacemaking, prevent violence, and promote sustainable development across the Arab world.

Somalia’s participation in the launch signals its growing role in regional policy dialogues and reflects the government’s broader vision to empower young people through national and international partnerships.
