Somali National Army (SNA) foiled an attack that Al-Shabaab had organized against a Deynunay Military Base.
A top SNA commander confirmed the news that the army not only repulsed the attack but also killed 12 Al-Shabaab militant.
The military base is roughly 20kms from Baidoa, Southwest State’s interim administrative capital. SNA troops engaged the militia in a fierce gunfight that lasted several hours.
According to witnesses, Al-Shabaab’s fighters then forced SNA troops to retreat before resorting to lecturing the locals and stealing sophisticated arms from the military base.
However, the region’s special forces then organized a swift counterattack that left several militants dead.
Gen. Mohamed Sheikh Abdullahi, Commander of SNA’s 60th Division, confirmed that Al-Shabaab attacked the Bay region base before the army killed several of its militants.
Deynunay has been the scene of several Al-Shabaab raids in the past. However, gallant SNA soldiers often ensure that the army wins against the Al-Qaeda linked militant group.
