Somalia Launches $25 Million Drought Relief Fund

Somalia has launched a $25 million Drought Relief Fund.

Abdirahman Abdishakur, the Special Envoy for Drought Response, unveiled the Drought Relief Fund on Wednesday, June 29.

“The fund is part of the Somalia Crisis Recovery Project,” Abdishakur announced.

Somalia is the worst-hit nation in the East Africa region by the ongoing drought. There are fears that the country could suffer famine before the end of the year.

Close to 7 million people in Somalia need humanitarian assistance.

Millions more have fled their homes in search of assistance for their vulnerable families in other areas.

While launching the Drought Relief Fund, the Special Envoy for Drought Response urged Somalis and foreigners alike to contribute to it.
