Somalia has launched licensing for electricity service providers (ESPs) for the first time in its history.
Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama was the chief guest at the event held on Saturday to launch the licensing.
In his speech, Jama hailed investments in clean, reliable, and affordable energy.
He commended the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources that made the exercise a success.
The energy ministry worked closely with the National Electricity Authority (NEA) in setting up licensing for all ESPs in the country.
Jama stated that the licensing heralds a new era for public-private partnerships (PPPs) to help the economy to thrive and grow.
