Somalia has launched the Social Protection Systems for the needy in the country.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs launched the program in an event attended by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
Various leaders spoke at the event.
Ahmed Fiqi, the labour minister, described the system as a “pivotal moment” for initiating identification and sustainable interventions for the needy.
Saeed Wafaa, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Representative to Somalia, welcomed the new system.
Wafaa said the system would support swift response to emergencies such as floods.
