Somalia Marks 66th Anniversary of National Flag Day

Somalia celebrated the 66th anniversary of the National Flag Day on Wednesday, October 14.

It is now 66 years since Somalia’s famous blue flag with a white star right at the center was created, designed, and launched.

Since then, the blue flag has become Somalia’s national flag.

Mohamed Awale Labin is the man credited with designing the famous flag, which he created in October 1954.

However, it would be another six years before the flag was hoisted across the country in an event that took place on July 1, 1960.

On Monday, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo urged Somalis to take great pride in the country’s national flag.

He told the public that the flag symbolizes the unity, sovereignty, and togetherness of Somalis in the country.

Farmaajo encouraged Somalis to honor the flag in memory of those involved in the fight for Somalia’s independence and right to self-rule.
