This week, the Federal Government of Somalia, in partnership with World Health Organization (WHO) Somalia, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Gavi, and other stakeholders, joined the global community in celebrating World Immunization Week under the theme “Immunization for All is Humanly Possible.”
The event coincides with Somalia’s growing momentum in expanding immunization coverage. Notably, the country recently introduced two critical vaccines—the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) and the rotavirus vaccine—designed to protect children from pneumonia and diarrhoea, two leading causes of child mortality. In addition, Somalia is rolling out a nationwide measles catch-up campaign to combat another major threat to child health.
