Mohamed Islow Dualw, the Minister of Internal Security in Somalia, met with representatives of the United Nations in Somalia to discuss security plans for the upcoming 2020 polls.
Somalia is scheduled to hold parliamentary elections in October 2020 before proceeding with Presidential Polls in February 2021.
On Saturday, James Swan, the UN Special Envoy to Somalia, met with Islow in Mogadishu to talk about the polls.
Islow confirmed the meeting when he said, “James Swan and I held talks that focused on increased cooperation between the United Nations and Somalia.”
Furthermore, he stressed that part of the agenda for the meeting was security for the upcoming polls.
Meanwhile, opposition politicians in the country have accused the government of dragging its feet in finalizing plans for the upcoming polls.
Sheikh Shariff and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, two leaders of the Forum for National Party (FNP) accused the government of employing “delay tactics” with the intention of extending its term.
