Somalia needs over $1.6 billion to handle the humanitarian crisis facing the country, according to James Swan.
As the Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) of the United Nations, Swan briefed the UN Security Council on the dire humanitarian situation facing the East African nation.
While briefing the UNSC on Monday, Swan added that outbreak of diseases, insecurity, and climate change have worsened the situation in Somalia.
Swan appealed to the UN and other international organizations to provide the $1.6 billion that Somalia Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan requires.
The latest update by Swan, which he provided to the Security Council, is that the response plan has only received 22 percent of the funding as of June 11, 2024.
