Somalia Never Discussed Maritime and Port Concessions During PM Abiy’s Official Visit

Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Omar, clarified in a local TV interview that maritime and port concessions were not part of the negotiations with Ethiopia.

Omar provided these details in the aftermath of the official visit of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Somalia on Thursday.

PM Ahmed and his host, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held talks at Villa Somalia during the One-Day visit.

Omar emphasized that the discussions solely revolved around commercial access facilitated through port and road investments.

This statement underscores Somalia’s commitment to maintaining sovereignty over its maritime resources while exploring economic collaborations with Ethiopia.
