Somalia No Longer Trusts AMISOM and KDF Troops

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has said that it no longer trusts the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops.

Somalia made this announcement on January 30.

The announcement follows the recent worsening of diplomatic ties between Somalia and Kenya.

Late last year, Somalia cut off diplomatic ties with Kenya. It recalled its diplomatic personnel serving in Kenya.

It also ordered the Kenyan diplomatic staff to leave Mogadishu immediately.

In December 2020, Somalia submitted a protest letter to Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) listing the complaints it has against Kenya.

Early this week, IGAD issued a report after the fact-finding mission team appointed to examine the diplomatic spat between the two nations absolved Kenya of all blame.

Currently, Kenya has close to 3,500 troops in Somalia. The troops are serving under the United Nations-mandated AMISOM.
