Somalia, Norway Deepen Ties in Development and Humanitarian Sectors

Mogadishu – On Friday in Mogadishu, Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama held a high-level meeting with Ambassador Gunnar Holm of Norway and Chargé d’Affaires Carsten Carlsen to strengthen the longstanding bilateral partnership between the two countries.

The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in key areas, including development, humanitarian assistance, peacebuilding, and institutional reform. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to shared priorities, emphasizing Norway’s enduring support for Somalia’s stabilization and state-building agenda.

Deputy Prime Minister Jama welcomed Norway’s continued engagement and thanked the Norwegian government for its consistent contributions to Somalia’s development and humanitarian needs. He also underscored the importance of aligning international support with Somalia’s national priorities, especially in light of the ongoing transition efforts and reforms.

Ambassador Holm praised Somalia’s progress in areas such as governance, economic recovery, and inclusive dialogue, and reiterated Norway’s readiness to work closely with Somali institutions to promote long-term stability and resilience.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to maintain regular diplomatic engagement and explore new areas of cooperation, particularly in climate resilience, education, and youth empowerment.

This dialogue underscores the growing momentum in Somalia’s international relations and the critical role of partnerships in achieving the country’s national development goals.
